The course provides a theoretical introduction to traditional and modern poetry, elucidating the content and history of such concepts as Fin de Siecle, modernism, Post-fin-de-siecle, postmodernism, the traditional, the contemporary. The historical part traces the beginnings of modern poetry in Slovene (Murn, Kosovel, Podbevšek), the interbellum development of modernism, its distinctive features and radicalisation, and finally its transition to postmodernism in the later 20th century. Slovene authors are treated in the context of literary history watersheds and of poetological metamorphoses within the poetry of Europe and the world. The conclusion provides a survey of the current poetic production as well as a critical, analytical examination of various interpretive models and of theoretical and philosophical explications of modernist and postmodernist poetry.
