A participatory research-action to prepare for disasters and health emergencies in Europe’s cities
On Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025, at 4.20 pm, we will host a seminar with Tamara Giles-Vernick from the Institut Pasteur in Paris. The event, which is part of the Wild Waters lecture series within the international research project Sonar-Cities will take place at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, Zavetiška 5, in lecture hall P1. The discussion will be held in English, but it will also be available via Zoom: https://uni-lj-si.zoom.us/j/93729563099.
With Tamara Giles-Vernick, we will discuss the Sonar-Cities project, which develops socially inclusive responses to health emergencies and disasters caused by climate change in urban settings. We will also explore how emergencies can disrupt and completely transform research-action plans, raising questions about the politics of such research approaches.
Tamara Giles-Vernick, Sonar-Cities' project leader, currently conducts research at the interstices of medical anthropology and ethnohistory (historical research using anthropological tools), investigating infectious disease transmission and global health interventions in Africa.
Welcome!"
